13th March 2007: WE'VE GOT ONE !!!!!!!!

Bro Radio is thrilled to announce that OFCOM has granted us a Community Radio Licence, for a period of five years. Obviously, the directors of Vale of Glamorgan Broadcasting are ecstatic on hearing the news. Speaking after today's award, Bro Radio's Managing Director Gary Price said: "This is brilliant news. We are aiming Bro Radio directly at the heart of Barry and the surrounding area. The remarkable seaside town of Barry and its surroundings are currently at the centre of substantial regeneration and redevelopment, and our management team see Bro Radio as having a valuable role in moving the area forward. We are committed to providing a community - focused service, offering our listeners a stimulating blend of local news, features, music, and to provide a platform for comment on all sorts of issues. We will shortly be arranging meetings to tell the communities in Barry, Penarth and the Vale of Glamorgan of our plans, and to seek their views and opinions to assist us in providing a first - class local community radio station".

13th February 2007: OFCOM awards six more community radio licences.

OFCOM has announced the names of the latest successful applicants for community radio licenses. These latest awards are from the second round of applications for licences submitted in November 2006. Congratulations to BRfm, Radio Tircoed, Soundart Radio, Somer Valley FM, A39 Radio and Radio St. Austell Bay. The Bro Radio team wish them good luck and every success for the next five years. Twenty-one applications were submitted to the government's media and communications regulator during the second round, and so far only eight have been awarded. Vale of Glamorgan Broadcasting's application, which will be known on air as Bro Radio, is one of the thirteen still to be decided. The directors of Vale of Glamorgan Broadcasting are hopeful that they will be awarded a licence soon, enabling Bro Radio to begin serving the communities of Barry, Penarth, Rhoose, Dinas Powys, Sully and Wenvoe before the end of this year.

17th January 2007: OFCOM awards first two licences.

OFCOM today announced the names of the first community radio groups to be awarded licences following the second round of licence applications. The directors of Vale of Glamorgan Broadcasting would like to congratulate Radio 10 in Wiveliscombe and Stroud FM on their success, and wish them many years of happy broadcasting. Vale of Glamorgan Broadcasting's bid, which will be known on air as Bro Radio, was submitted in early November 2006. The Bro Radio team are eagerly awaiting a decision from OFCOM as to whether our bid has been successful, enabling us to launch a brand new community radio station for Barry and the Vale.

12th January 2007: Bro Radio to the rescue!

Vale of Glamorgan Broadcasting's technical team were delighted to help out fellow community radio station GT-FM last night. Braving the dark, a lively gale and plenty of flood water, Bro Radio's engineers restored power to the Pontypridd-based station's transmitter site, putting the station back on the air after a six-and-a-half hour break in transmission.

05th November 2006: Bro Radio goes to London.

Two key members of Vale of Glamorgan Broadcasting's management team made the long journey along the M4 from the company's Barry headquarters, to OFCOM's offices in London to deliver Bro Radio's community radio licence application form. Project Manager Rick Ward and Managing Director Gary Price handed over the 84 page document to OFCOM's Lawrie Hallett at the regulator's premises on Southwark Bridge Road, five days ahead of the official closing date for applications.
